Calendula's anti-inflammatory action is mediated primarily by its flavonoid content — specifically isorhamnetin and quercetin — which inhibit key inflammatory pathways without triggering sensitisation. It is one of very few botanicals considered safe for use on compromised or reactive skin conditions including eczema and post-procedural inflammation.
